Funding opportunities and application procedure for staff from partner universities

Within the framework of the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility program (KA171), teaching staff and administrative staff from our Erasmus+ ICM partner universities in China, Ethiopia, Israel and Thailand can receive funding for teaching at LMU Munich or for participating in a training activity for professional development purposes.

Faculty Mobility with Teaching Assignment (STA)

Guest lecturers are to strengthen the international orientation of LMU and their home university through their stay at LMU, to complement the range of courses offered by LMU and to impart their expertise to students.

  • Duration: 5 days to 2 weeks
  • Teaching assignment: 8 hours per week
  • Eligible: Faculty employed by the partner institution

Faculty/Staff Mobility for Training (STT)

The funding aim is to support the internationalization of both partner universities and to strengthen the staff members' international and professional competencies. The focus of a stay at the host university is, for example, to further develop the university cooperation, to clarify administrative procedures or to develop one's own professional skills. The application must be accompanied by a defined work program, which will be coordinated in advance with your host at LMU. A combination of teaching and further education is also possible.

  • Duration: 5 days to 2 weeks
  • Eligible: Faculty and administrative staff employed by the partner institution

Please note that no insurance coverage is associated with the grant.

This might, for example, include flights and costs for assistants accompanying you, costs for barrier-free accommodation, or costs for a preparatory visit.

Applications must be submitted to the DAAD national agency at least two months before departure. Please note that you will not be eligible to apply after you have already commenced your stay abroad.

Funding opportunities and application procedure for students from partner universities

Students from selected partner universities in Ethiopia, Israel, Thailand, and South Africa can apply for an Erasmus+ ICM scholarship for the duration of their student exchange at LMU Munich. The mobility period for studies can last from 2 to 12 months. The mobility period for a traineeship (only Ethiopia) can last from 2 to 12 months.

Students from Erasmus+ ICM partner institutions should apply through the international office of their home university.

  • Monthly rate for students: 850 euros
  • Travel allowance: Ethiopia. 820 euros, Israel: 360 euros, Thailand: 1,500 euros, South Africa: 820 euros

Additional financial support for participants with fewer opportunities (social top-up)

Students with fewer opportunities are eligible to apply for an additional top-up of 250 euros per month. There are 4 categories of students with fewer opportunities as defined by the EU and the German National Agency, DAAD:

  • Students with children (who will be travelling with them)
  • Students from a non-academic household (neither of their parents have obtained an academic degree)
  • Students who need to work to support themselves during their studies (student has worked for at least 6 months for at least 20 hours per week prior to his/her exchange)
  • Students with disabilities or chronic diseases

How do students apply for a social top-up?

Once students have been admitted to participate in the student exchange under Erasmus+ with LMU by the International Office of their home university, they will be guided through LMU's online application system. Students will need to prove that they belong to one of the above-named groups by signing a declaration after their acceptance to LMU. In this Declaration of Honour, the beneficiaries confirm that they fulfill the eligibility criteria and that they are in possession of supporting documents that prove their eligibility (depending on the category, this could take the form of a medical certificate, disability badge, child allowance award/travel documents, declaration by parents, pay slips, etc.)

Applicants with disabilities (degree of disability: at least 20%) or chronic diseases may apply for a special grant for additional expenses abroad.

Please note that only additional costs not covered by funding in your home country (e.g. health insurance providers, social security departments) and which only arise due to your stay abroad can be considered. This might, for example, include flights and costs for assistants accompanying you, costs for barrier-free accommodation, or costs for a preparatory visit.

As you must provide evidence of the difference between expenses in your home country and abroad, please allow enough time to complete the application and contact LMU's International Office (susanne.roessler@lmu.de) as early as possible. Applications must be submitted to the DAAD national agency at least two months before departure. Please note that you will not be eligible to apply after you have already commenced your stay abroad.
