The university forest

The university forest is a real-life laboratory for ecological and economically sustainable forest management. Covering 470 hectares, it provides LMU with an valuable infrastructure for research, teaching, and field internships. Students and researchers use the forest for interdisciplinary projects in cooperation with the Technical University of Munich. The goal is to further develop the forest as a model for climate-adapted, profitable forest management and to expand its use for research and teaching. The university forest is open to all members of the LMU community.

Botanical Garden

The Botanical Garden Munich-Nymphenburg covers 22 hectares and is home to around 16,420 plant species. Together with the Alpine Garden at Schachen, it provides a valuable foundation for research and teaching. The Botanical Garden is part of the Bavarian State Natural Science Collections and is directed by LMU professor Gudrun Kadereit.

Seeon Limnological station (SLS)

The SLS offers ideal conditions for research in aquatic ecology. Located directly on Klostersee lake, it enables practical research and teaching on aquatic ecosystems. LMU students and researchers study biological, chemical and physical processes in aquatic habitats. The station fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and contributes to the sustainable use and conservation of freshwater environments.
