LMU offers all students a wide range of opportunities to engage with sustainability in both interdisciplinary and practice-oriented ways. We embrace our special responsibility to empower current and future generations to shape a sustainable society and to use natural resources responsibly.

Munich Center for Sustainability (MZN)

The MZN promotes interdisciplinary research and teaching on sustainability, with particular emphasis on the dimensions of natural, cultural and social sciences, ethics, creation theology, education, art and science theory as well as university didactics and practice.

el mundo embeds education for sustainable development (ESD) through innovative teaching and learning formats. The program aims to equip students from a wide range of disciplines with the knowledge and tools to integrate sustainability into both educational and professional contexts. Together, they explore global challenges and develop practical, forward-looking solutions for sustainable action.

LMU Munich Climate School

The Munich Climate School offers participants the opportunity to attend first-class lectures by leading researchers. The program is complemented by engaging side events in and around Munich—a city long committed to environmental and climate protection thanks to its proximity to nature.

Environmental Office of the Student Council (StuVe) 

StuVe’s Environmental Office is committed to helping preserve planetary diversity. In areas such as governance, energy, recycling, and nutrition, it develops and implements measures and projects in collaboration with the university management, administration, faculty, researchers, and students—with the goal of promoting sustainable change across LMU.

Umweltlifeguide (environmental lifeguide)

The Umweltlifeguide provides students in Munich with practical tips for making their everyday lives more sustainable. It was developed through a long-term collaboration between the Environmental Office of LMU’s Student Council (StuVe) and the Environmental Department of the Student Union at TUM.
