Welcome to the summer semester 2021

For more than a year now we have been studying and working, teaching and researching under pandemic conditions that are difficult for all of us. Only by virtue of the extraordinary commitment of all of you – students, academics, administrative and technical staff – were we once again able to continue research activities and teaching despite many restrictions in the past winter semester. I would like to thank you all very much for this.
While we were successful at transitioning to a mostly digital mode of academic life this past year, I know we would all like to return to life at our university with face-to-face events and personal meetings. However, due to the ongoing pandemic, the summer semester will most likely have to yet again rely widely on remote teaching and learning. Should infection rates and the legal framework permit in-person teaching over the course of the summer, we will examine all options in close consultation with the faculties and implement changes accordingly. Please rest assured that all of our institutions at LMU continue to work tirelessly to provide the best possible conditions, to find subject-specific solutions, and to offer support where challenges arise.
The pandemic is a test of patience for all of us. Nevertheless, I am convinced that we will live up to the challenges of the upcoming semester together, just as we did in the two previous semesters. I would like to express my gratitude to you for your continued support, perseverance, and understanding.
In this spirit, I wish you – also on behalf of the entire University Executive Board – a peaceful Easter holiday and a great start into a successful summer semester!
Yours sincerely,
Prof. Dr. Bernd Huber
President of LMU Munich
