At her exhibition Goethe is back – Mirrored in the 21st century, photographer Nicole Simon embarks on an extraordinary journey of discovery.
Armed with her camera, Simon immerses herself in the universe of poet and thinker Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and breathes new life into his legacy. Her show presents significant places in Goethe’s life, but also blends in powerfully expressive color portraits of the great man that dovetail seamlessly with his poetic works. The exhibition is complemented by portraits of well-known figures from the world of art, culture and science who have special links with Goethe.
One highlight is the impressive mise-en-scène in the Thomas Mann Hall: a monumental, six-by-six-meter portrait of Goethe entitled “Bewusstsein – Consciousness” – the centerpiece of a singularly imposing spatial installation.
