Venue:

The popular “Maths on Saturday” series continues with a layperson-friendly lecture by Professor Sebastian Hensel on the subject: “What is a dimension, actually?”

In tonight’s talk, Professor Hensel gives an insight into topology, the field of mathematics that concerns itself with the form of spaces. The lecture investigates whether a (one-dimensional) continuous curve can completely fill a (two-dimensional) square.

Why is it a little difficult to even define a dimension? And what would change if people lived in a two or four-dimensional space?

There will be opportunity for a discussion with the speaker at the end of the lecture.
