Since 2017, the Collaborative Research Center Transregio “Rationality and Competition: The Economic Performance of Individuals and Firms” has been studying economic behavior in modern societies. The researchers involved in the project use behavioral economic methods to arrive at robust findings as the basis for economic policy recommendations. The German Research Association (DFG) has now extended the work of the collaborative research center (CRC) for a further funding period.
As evidenced by many behavioral economic studies, humans do not always make purely rational decisions. This fact has repercussions for their economic decisions and, hence, for companies too. The aim of this CRC is to investigate human decision-making using economic models, laboratory and field experiments, and empirical studies. The findings are of considerable importance to both economic policy and companies.
This CRC is a joint project involving LMU and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. In the future, it will once again be headed by Professor Klaus Schmidt, Chair of Economic Theory at LMU.
