LMU is founding the Center for Contemporary Literature Munich. “Literary research at LMU assumes a wide variety of forms. The Center for Contemporary Literature Munich will create stronger links between this research in all its facets and the broader literary life in Munich,” says Oliver Jahraus, Professor of Modern German Literature and Media and Vice President for Teaching and Studies at LMU.

The new center will promote interdisciplinary research and teaching about contemporary literature and provide infrastructure for future collaborative projects. In addition, it will cooperate with non-university institutions such as the Lyrik Kabinett poetry foundation, the Monacensia literary archive, Literaturhaus München (Munich House of Literature), and the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities.

“In Munich, there’s a lively literary scene and an excellent publishing landscape. The Center for Contemporary Literature Munich will allow us to forge better links between both these aspects of literary life and literary research. Our goal is to bring literary research into closer dialog with literature itself. Researchers can learn a lot from authors and hopefully the reverse is also true,” says Frieder von Ammon, Professor of Modern German Literature at LMU.

The opening celebration for the Center for Contemporary Literature Munich will take place on 12 July 2024 at the Monacensia (Hildebrandhaus) in Munich, with which LMU has longstanding ties of cooperation.
