During the first part of the degree program Human Medicine at the place of study in Munich, the period covering the simultaneous registration an LMU and TUM is limited until the point the first part of the medical examination is passed successfully. Therefore, you are required to apply for acceptance into the 1st semester of the second part. You will be placed to continue with your studies at either Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München or Technische Universität München if
a) you are registered as a student for the following semester
b) you passed the first part of the medical examination at the place of study in Munich, or
c) you are a currently registered student in the fourth or higher semester and you have successfully passed the first part of the medical examination, and
d) you have submitted the application to continue with the second part of the medical program.
The application and the required documents must be received by 15 January, at the latest, for the summer semester and 15 July, at the latest, for the winter semester – by midnight, respectively.
How do I apply?
The application to continue with the second part of the medical program must be submitted via the online module provided by the self-service functions for students at LMU. The application will be made available approximately one month prior to the deadline.
Please note that in certain cases additional documents must be submitted by postal mail to the Office of the University Registrar.
Which documents must be submitted by postal mail to the Office of the University Registrar?
If you are scheduled to take the first part of the medical examination at the time that you are submitting your application (the general rule), there is no need to submit any documents. In this case it is sufficient to submit the application via the online self-service function.
- If you already successfully passed the first part of the medical examination at LMU during a previous semester, you are required to submit a complete simple copy, no notarization needed, of your certificate of the first part of the medical examination.
- If you passed this examination at another university in Germany, you are required to submit a copy of this certificate issued by the university concerned.
- If you passed this examination abroad, you are required to submit a copy of the examination certificate as well as copy of the certificate of equivalence.
How does the process work?
The following amendment on a student’s placement will be applied for the first time to the Summer Semester 2023.
Students will be placed at either Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München or Technische Universität München at a ratio of 60% to 40%.
If a selection procedure becomes necessary, there will be a random selection within the group of those students who applied for a place at a specific university and earned a grade between 2,0 and 4,0 in the first part of the medical examination.
Differently from this, students who earned a grade of 1,0 or 1,5 in the first part of the medical examination will always be placed based on their request at one of the two universities. (§ 58 section 2 of HZV)
Study places which go unclaimed will be allocated based on the stipulated ranking in accordance with Article 6 sections 1 und 2 of BayHZG.
