Second degree program

A completed second degree does not necessarily improve your chances in the job market! If you want to pursue a second degree program, we recommend that you make use of the counseling opportunities offered by the Central Student Advisory Office and the "Berufsberatung der Arbeitsagentur".

The path leading to admission in a second degree program varies and is contingent upon the intended subject’s admission requirements. Please note: The following information concerns German citizens and "Bildungsinländer" (i.e. foreign citizens who obtained a German higher education entrance qualification). If this does not apply to you, please contact the Central Student Advisory Office in order to clarify the admission requirements and procedures!

• Fees and tuition fees: All students at LMU Munich are required to pay fees and tuition fees, no matter whether they are registered in their first or their second undergraduate degree program.
• If you are interested in a subject with no admission restrictions, you may simply register online during the announced dates and deadlines.
• If you intend to study a subject requiring an aptitude test, you may also simply register online after passing the aptitude test.
• It is also straightforward to be admitted to a second degree program in subjects which conduct a so-called pre-registration and/or online self-assessment: Prior to registering in any of these degree programs, the mandatory pre-registration/online self-assessment is a requirement conducted by the respective department, institute or faculty.
• If you are interested in a subject with admission restrictions, you are required to apply for admission by the announced dates and deadlines. For subjects with national admission restrictions, you must apply at hochschulstart and for those with local admission restrictions, you must apply directly at LMU Munich. With the exception of the teacher education degree programs, all degree programs with local admission restrictions are included in the "Dialogorientierte Service-Verfahren" managed by the University Admissions Foundation. In these cases, you are required to first register via hochschulstart and in a second step you must apply for admission at LMU. Please feel free to contact the Central Student Advisory Office if you have questions about the application and registration processes.
• As far as degree programs with local admission restrictions are concerned, four percent of the study places are reserved as a quota for students seeking a second degree program. Regarding degree programs with national admission restrictions, three percent of the study places are reserved for applicants pursuing a second degree program. In both cases, the following admission regulations apply: Applicants are ranked by the number of points they are given in two categories: Firstly, you receive points for the final grade in your first undergraduate degree program. Secondly, points are given for the statement you submitted explaining why you intend to pursue a second degree program in the respective subject. Upon admission, you may proceed to register online.
