About Mykola Haievoi

Mykola Haievoi was a PhD student at the Ukrainian Catholic University. After the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022, he volunteered to join the Ukrainian Armed Forces. He was killed on August 27, 2024 during the fighting in the Kursk region at the age of 28. He should have completed his doctoral thesis as part of the center's research. The center is named after him.

Mykola Haievoi was born in Uzhhorod in 1995. He studied history at the National University of Uzhhorod and then at the UCU in Lviv. Here he completed a master's degree in history. He also studied theology at the Theological Institute in Bryukhovyči. In 2019, he began his doctoral studies at UCU. It was planned that after returning from the army, he should have completed his doctoral thesis as part of the Center's research. On August 27, 2024, a few weeks before the opening of the center, Mykola Haievoi fell in battle against the Russian invasion.

Mykola Haievoi was one of the most promising historians of his generation. He is thus representative of the numerous sacrifices that Ukrainians are currently making in the fight for freedom, dignity and self-determination against the Russian invasion.
