Mein Lebenslauf

I am a trained molecular cell biologist with experience in coral reef field work. I have worked in various countries including the US, the UK, Austria, Spain, Mexico and Japan. I have been interested in inter- and transdisciplinary approaches for multiple years and developed projects and teaching modules at the interface of arts & science.

Meine Forschung

My research investigates the molecular mechanism of coral symbiosis using a model systems’ approach in the lab which is complemented with coral research in the field. A molecular understanding is foundation for understanding the evolution, ecology of coral symbiosis and what goes awry during coral bleaching in response to climate change.

Mein Nachhaltigkeitsverständnis

The life sciences play a central role in dealing with the challenges of our time and the social transformation towards a sustainable way of life. Together with Dr. Mascha Gugganig, I head the Center for Life Sciences and Society, which aims to investigate scientific-societal interactions and create contact zones between these areas. In the long term, inter- and transdisciplinary collaborations are to be established in order to utilize the creative and innovative potential of this cooperation and to preserve biodiversity. Special attention is paid to the oceans and the connection between science and art.
