Neuropsychological Outpatient Clinic

Who are we?
The Neuropsychological University Outpatient Clinic is an institution of the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. Our tasks include scientifically supported neuropsychological diagnostics and intervention, training procedures, as well as behavioral therapy for people after brain damage and support for their relatives. In addition to our therapeutic services, we also carry out scientific studies to test and improve the effectiveness of existing neuropsychological procedures and to develop new diagnostic tools and treatment options. Through the close integration of science and application, we strive to offer a range of therapies that are at the cutting edge of research.
Range of treatments
Our services are aimed at adults with neurological diseases that lead to neuropsychological disorders. In addition to strokes, cerebral hemorrhages and traumatic brain injuries, these also include inflammatory brain diseases, brain tumors and hypoxic brain damage. Neuropsychological treatment includes the diagnosis and treatment of sensory, cognitive, motivational, emotional and psychological functions that may be impaired as a result of these diseases.
Depending on the indication, the staff at the neuropsychological university outpatient clinic work with neuropsychology and/or cognitive-behavioral therapy. We mainly carry out individual therapies, but depending on the individual problem situation, we also offer couples or family discussions and group therapies.
During the treatment period and beyond, you have the opportunity to take part in the chair's research projects to improve neuropsychological diagnostics and therapy.
What problems can you turn to us with?
Our range of therapies includes the diagnosis and treatment of attention disorders, memory and concentration disorders, perceptual disorders, as well as planning and problem-solving disorders. We also deal with changes in mood, drive and behavior following acquired brain damage.
A special concern of the university outpatient clinic is also the treatment of mental disorders that occur in the context of brain damage and diseases, e.g. depressive moods or anxiety disorders in the context of neurological diseases.
In addition, we are also a point of contact for relatives of patients with brain diseases or damage who are under considerable stress due to traumatic experiences or crises in the context of their relative's illness.
Our range of therapies is aimed at all those affected - regardless of their insurance status. Members of statutory and private health insurance companies can contact us directly or by referral. The costs of treatment are generally covered by health insurance. Of course, patients may also bear the costs themselves if they so wish.
Procedure
During an initial consultation, we will gain an overview of the existing problem and provide information about treatment options and objectives. If the requirements for outpatient neuropsychological treatment are met and we can make a suitable therapy offer, further appointments for detailed diagnostics and therapy will be arranged. The number and frequency of sessions depends on the individual case.
Yours sincerely,
Dr. Sigrid Seiler and Dr. Johanna Funk
