Fire safety regulations: Behaviour in the event of fire (DE) (PDF, 12 KB)

Special care must be taken in the Zeitungslesehalle on the 2nd and 3rd floors of Building 1.
There are automatic safety mechanisms that are activated in the event of fire or smoke:

  • Fire doors on the stairwells and two sliding fire doors on the south side close automatically to prevent smoke and fire from spreading to Building 2.
  • The escape routes lead via neighbouring offices and seminar rooms, which must be free of obstacles such as tables or chairs. If these are blocked, there is no escape route!
  • Two escape routes per room must be freely accessible at all times.
  • Connecting doors between rooms and to the staircase must not be locked or obstructed. This is particularly important in the newspaper reading room, as the automatic fire doors and gates can only be opened manually by strong people.

Fire prevention plays a key role in preventing fires before they start. Here (PDF, 36 KB) are the most important measures and rules of behaviour to prevent fires at LMU.

  • Smoking ban: Smoking is strictly prohibited in all areas at risk of fire, especially in teaching and library rooms. No burning cigarette butts may be thrown into waste paper baskets or rubbish bins.
  • Safe handling of highly flammable substances: Highly flammable or explosive substances may only be stored and processed in specially labelled rooms. Open light and fire are prohibited when handling these substances.
  • Use of electrical appliances: Electrical household and cooking appliances may only be operated under supervision. They must be placed on suitable fireproof surfaces. The use of fan heaters or immersion heaters is not permitted.
  • Keep escape and rescue routes clear: Corridors and stairwells that serve as escape routes must be kept clear of objects at all times. Flammable materials may not be stored in these areas.
  • Waste disposal: Flammable waste, such as packaging materials, must be regularly removed from the rooms and disposed of properly.

Central and local fire safety officers are available to answer specific questions on fire safety. The central contact point is located in Division II B 3 of the University Administration. In addition, Fire Safety Officers are appointed for each building who are responsible for the correct implementation of the fire safety regulations.

Regular training and evacuation drills are organised to ensure that everyone is able to react correctly in the event of a fire.
